In July 2022, Wales launched the national Wales Trauma-Informed Framework. This all age and all of society Framework was co-produced with people and organisations across Wales and supported by the Welsh Government. The Framework is evidence-based, and development was advised by an Expert Reference Group of professionals and people with lived experience and informed by a 12-week public consultation.
The Trauma-Informed Wales Implementation Steering Group (ISG) supports the implementation of the Framework, with a cross-sector membership of people with lived experience and professional expertise. It is co-led by Dr Jo Hopkins, Director of ACE Hub Wales and Professor Jon Bisson, Director of Traumatic Stress Wales.
The ISG is committed to embodying the principles of the Framework in the way it operates; dedicated time has been given to foster and develop a relational approach to meetings and providing advice to ensure that the group is working in a trauma-informed way. This approach will be extended into the established working groups to ensure collaboration and inclusivity around the priorities.
The working groups are Children and Young People, Knowledge and Skills into Practice, Monitoring and Evaluation, Communication and Engagement and Lived Experience.
They will drive this work forward with a priority for all to include voices of those who are not already around the table.
Working together to create a Trauma-Informed Wales for babies, infants, children and youth.
Connecting people, places and organisations to develop a whole system approach to trauma-informed knowledge and skills into practice and culture change.
Measuring our progress and evaluating our success in becoming a trauma-informed nation.
