Trauma-skilled

A trauma-skilled approach is embedded within the practice of everyone who provides care or support to people who may have experienced trauma, whether or not the trauma is known about. This applies to most organisations and services in Wales, and many working in and with the community.

Working at the trauma-skilled level

Josh and Clare run a community kitchen and drop-in as part of a national charity. They know some children and adults who come to them for help have experienced trauma. Watch this short animation to see how Josh and Claire bring a trauma-skilled approach to their role.

Training at the trauma-skilled level

Training at the trauma-skilled level is aimed at most professionals in Wales.

If you are considering commissioning or accessing training that specifically states or you believe to be at the trauma-skilled level, you should expect it to include reference to the Trauma-Informed Wales Framework principles and practice levels. Trauma-skilled level training should build on the trauma-aware level and include more practical techniques to recognise behaviours that may be a result of underlying trauma.
