Trauma-enhanced

A trauma-enhanced approach is used by frontline workers who are providing direct or intensive support to people who are known to have experienced traumatic events within their role, and encompasses ways of working to help people to cope with the impact of their trauma.

Working at the trauma-enhanced level

Emyr is a social worker. He loves his job and wants to support older people in his community to reach their goals. He knows some of the people he sees regularly are finding it hard to pay for food and are sometimes treated differently by others because they look different, or are new to the area. Watch this short animation to see how Emyr brings a trauma-skilled approach to his role.

Training at the trauma-enhanced level

Training at a trauma-enhanced level is aimed at people within organisations who are providing direct or intensive support to people who are known to have experienced traumatic events.

If you are considering commissioning or accessing training that specifically states or you believe to be at the trauma-enhanced level, you should expect it to include reference to the Trauma-Informed Wales Framework principles and practice levels. It should build on knowledge acquired at the trauma-aware and trauma-skill levels, and provide and equip people with the skills to identify someone in distress and to intervene.
