Being Trauma-informed: Language, Meaning, and Culture in Wales

Over the past two decades, trauma-informed approaches have become increasingly embedded within policy and practice across a wide range of sectors in Wales. Central to these approaches is language. The terms used to describe trauma, safety, trust, and recovery shape how professionals understand experiences of adversity and how systems respond to them. This paper explores the role of language within trauma-informed work.

Practice Level: The Wales Trauma-Informed Practice Framework has four defined practice levels. The levels describe the different roles that people may have within a variety of contexts and represent a spectrum rather than a hierarchy.
